Chefkirk / Somnaphon : Tender Pink Movements

Chefkirk / Somnaphon : Tender Pink Movements
Bicephalic Records - BC006 - c20 cassette split
http://www.bicephalic.net/bc006.html

Two great tastes that taste great together:
A cassette split featuring Roger Smith (Chefkirk, _whALe_pLAtE_, Insects with Tits, Control Valve netlabel) and August Traeger (Somnaphon, Nipple Stools, Food World, Bicephalic Records). For this release, Chefkirk creates a sparse minimal glitch cut-up piece of sound and Somnaphon manipulates midi data to create a smeared electro-atmosphere. Great for a nice walk in the park or for a bad walk in the street... whatever you're into.

Chefkirk is Roger H Smith is no-input mixing board is location recordings is microcassette is sampler is cpu is controlvalve.net
Recorded 2010-2011 @ HOME

Somnaphon is August Traeger + hardware/software manipulation.

Controlled Dissonance - Terrains Vagues

BC003 - Controlled Dissonance : Terrains Vagues

John Ingram (Controlled Dissonance) creates some great dark ambient / atmospheric drone, or as I've seen described elsewhere "harsh ambient, soft noise". His Intelligent Machinery website is and has been various things (net label, blog, etc.) and has hosted & compiled some great noise & electronic compilations. Terrains Vagues sounds like a slow and ominous descent into the deepest depths of the ocean. On first listen, I imagined something akin the final scene in the movie The Abyss. Subtle and cinematic. That was my experience anyway. Let it take you where it may.

In his own words:
"That je ne sais quoi of sound that is so often ill-described as "atmosphere" had always intrigued him. The manner in which textures of sound overlapped, faded into and out of one another and reflected off of the surfaces of the surrounding world, like a lone shoe tossed about in an otherwise empty dryer. It was this sense of space and how it could be explored that first attracted him. It was the freedom of expression, unfettered by the constraints of traditional composition, that held him fast in the world of abstract noise. The visceral freedom to place his hands on virtually anything from which sound could be culled, and revel in the instant gratification of turning that object, regardless of its original intent, into an instrument of sound. That is Controlled Dissonance."

Nipple Stools - Decision Points

Nipple Stools is Carl Kruger and August Traeger. These two have been involved with various solo work, collaborations and side projects for a number of years. The music of Nipple Stools tends toward the glitch.jazz.ambient.sunshine end of the sound spectrum with Decision Points documenting a more fragmented approach to the sound composition. These 14 tracks sputter and crackle their way through some beautifully rich sonic territory. These are abstract and dense compositions that reward deep listening.

Cape Fear Noise

Bicephalic Records is starting things off with a bang! This limited edition hand painted & numbered CD Digipak compilation features noise artists from Wilmington, NC USA. The nine songs on this compilation are the product of just four individuals (Carl Kruger, Ryan Lewis, Allison Parker and August Traeger). As shown by this release, these four are actively involved in their own solo work as well as numerous incestuous collaborations. A great document of the Cape Fear region's experimental music scene.
